Texas A&M Lacrosse was featured in the July 1979 Lacrosse Magazine when we played in the Fiesta Tournament in San Antonio. To see the entire article about the "Goat-Ropers" Click Here. The file is large and may take a long time to download. One note, the article talks about a Miles Kight who was a player but was not the one the writer ask to have a photo taken, that lucky Dude was your one an only Catfish.

Former Player Profiles

Doug Campbell '78
’74-’78 Goalie, mid-field

VP Operation/Manufacturing - Alimak Hek

’76 Stayed out all night in NO with Jim Fralic (and female company we had met).  We arrived back at locker room just in time to suit up and take the field after staying out all night.  It was a very hot humid day in the old Sugar Bowl.  When we stepped on the field; steam was coming off the turf.  Jim and I were not in the best of shape for the game.  Mid-way through the first quarter Jim broke his ankle, but continued to play.  Jim was unstoppable and won MVP.  I had my best game in goal with Tulane fielding several all-American grad students.

I was a lacrosse official from 1976 until retiring (a second time) two years ago.

Dr. Robert "Roben" Ash '78
'74 - 78' Midfield, Face-Off Specialist & Man Down Defense

Dermantologist

Texas A&M Lacrosse gave me the drive and confidence to achieve. Tony Scazzero coached a rag tag bunch of boys into rag tag men who learned what winning felt like on a regular basis. Dave Gruber taught us how to talk. Doc Hall showed us that age has nothing to do with the love for the battle, giving it your best playing with pride and honor, and hating like hell to get beat. What a great bunch of guys to hang out with. You could sense that every lacrosse player was special and destined for sucess. That just the nature of the beast and I might add, a fact not lost on women. This great sport prepare the body and mind for overcoming abstacles between school and life goals........so maybe I'm doctor because of it.
Thanks, TAMU Lacrosse

Frank "Catfish" Boyd '78
'75 - '79 Midfield / Face-Off

Chemical Engineer

Playing Lacrosse at Texas A&M helped me to focus and made me feel apart of something much larger. Most if not all of the people that I associated with at A&M were connected with the Lacrosse Team. I called the first "Gatehering" in 1982 after I recieved an invited to my first class reunion. I thought about who I would like to see again and the only people I want to see from A&M was the guy that I played Lacrosse with. Just over 30 Former Studs showed up for the first "Gathering" and there has been a "Gathering" every year since. After A&M I player 12 years of club ball for various teams and became a referee which I did for 15 years and finally had to retire after major knee surgey.
