History

As a founding member of the Southwest Lacrosse Association (SWLA) in 1974, the Texas A&M Men’s Lacrosse Program has played an integral part in growing the sport of lacrosse in Texas for over 30 years.

The Texas A&M men’s lacrosse team was first founded by Texas A&M professor, Charles F. “Doc” Hall and David Gruber, in 1972. In 1978, former Cornell lacrosse player, Tony Scazzero, took over the program as a player and coach.

In the early 1980’s Tony relegated himself to the sidelines and became instrumental in developing players and the lacrosse program by bringing his extensive knowledge of the game to Texas A&M University. The A&M program blossomed in the 1980’s and 1990’s before achieving monumental success from 1998-2003, when the Fightin’ Texas Aggies went undefeated for four straight years in the Lone Star Alliance, racking up an astounding 44-0 conference record, five consecutive USL MDIA Tournament appearances, and a Texas A&M best, #5 national ranking in USL MDIA competition.

Tony has served as President and scheduler of the Southwest Lacrosse Association, and Conference Director, treasurer and scheduler for the Lone Star Alliance. Tony serves on the MDIA Board of Directors and is currently a vice president of the MDIA Executive Committee. In 2003, Tony was awarded the Sam Sadler Service Award by the USL MDIA, recognizing him for his many years of outstanding service to the USL MDIA community, as well as his humanitarian service to the sport of lacrosse. He recently was appointed to the US Lacrosse Board of Directors as the MDIA representative.

Today, Tony remains the most influential and integral part of Texas A&M lacrosse. With his guidance, the Aggies have developed into one of the most successful lacrosse programs in the Southwest. As he returns for his 27th year of coaching at Texas A&M University, he strives to bring the program to even higher levels.

In 2004, the Charles F. "Doc" Hall Foundation was chartered under the guidance of Dustin Childers. Today, the foundation continues to grow as it supports all ventures of Texas A&M Lacrosse.
